Smart Money | Hugh Grant

Just received this tearsheet in the mail-

Monsanto's CEO Hugh Grant for Smart Money Magazine.
The shoot actually went very well considering a few logistical aspects considering schedules, locations, plus the forecasts. Hugh was very accommodating with his time. Giving us enough time to shoot two different setups ...which is rare.

Here's one that didn't make the cut -

Bob Reuter

This past Friday I went to Jenna Bauer's Studio to check out the Bob Reuter photo sale and exhibit. I had the pleasure of meeting Bob when we were involved in the St. Louis Seen & Unseen coffee table book. Not only is he a great photographer, he's a musician and radio show personality for "Bob's Scratchy Records" where he plays actual 45s. He recently had heart surgery, and to help with his hospital bills Jenna produced this show. His photography is gritty and emotionally raw. Exploring the "South City" underbelly of musicians, artists, alleys, and the people that wander in the nightlife. Some of the best documentary photography of St. Louis around. It was good to see him alive & healthy.
It was a pleasure to be able to pick up a couple of his signed prints.

Robert Capa Lost Negatives

©Tony Cenicola
Wonderful story in the New York Times about Robert Capa's lost negatives. The war photography pioneer fled Paris in 1939 for America, leaving everything behind in his dark room. Having been hidden in Mexico City all these years, the lost negatives were discovered last month.

Bakery Productions: Pop, Lock & Drop It

© David Torrence

A recent tear from my shoot for Scratch Magazine out of New York
of PoPo, K-Kash and D-Scorch’d. Featured in the magazine’s “Fresh” section, the St. Louis-based Bakery Productions is gaining a reputation by creating beats for Huey, Chingy, Chris Brown, and Erykah Badu.

Wild, Weird, & Wonderful

photo © F.W.Glasier

One of my favorite photography books is Wild Weird and Wonderful: The American Circus 1901-1927 by Mark Sloane. The photographs of the Big Top by F.W. Glasier are both gritty and beautiful. Whenever the circus came to town (Brockton, Mass.) during the early part of the 20th century, the relatively unknown commercial photographer Glasier was there to shoot for promotional purposes. You can get lost in the details of the nicely reproduced B/W full-page plates, including panoramic views and composed portraits. It’s fascinating to see clowns, freaks, elephants, period costumes, and animal wranglers in the hey-day of the traveling circus.
You can get the book at Luminious-Lint (along with lots of other photographic collections.
