A few weeks ago I photographed a new piece of work by artist Cheryl Wassenaar.
We both used to have our studios in the same building a few years ago where I shot environmental portraits of her (above). Cheryl constructs her artwork from discarded commercial signage by transforming segments into colors and patterns incorporating language and numerals. Most of her other work hangs on the wall, but these new pieces are freestanding structures that measure 8.5 to 9 feet tall with different designs on all four sides. The images were shot at the different angles, and then with a human subject to show the sense of scale. Thanks to Mark Miselnicky for providing the human scale factor.
